Post-Colonial Literatures and Cultures
The research group in Post-Colonial Literatures and Cultures is directed by Felicity Hand. We are in the first year of our second research project funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (Micinn). Our first project Hybridity in Indian Ocean Literature in English and French: Convergences and Divergences. Contrastive Study of an Emerging Literary System (HUM2006-02725) analyzed the concept of hibridity as the driving force behind creative writing and the imaginary in Indian Ocean literature in English and French. Our first international conference Indicities was held in April 2009. This second project Cartographies of Indianness in Indian Ocean Literature: Memory, Connections and Trauma (FFI2009-07711) focuses on cultural productions in the South West Indian Ocean and East Africa, with special emphasis on those areas with a sizeable South Asian component, such as Mauritius, Réunion, Kenya and Zanzibar. Our members include Makarand Paranjape (Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi) Farhad Khoyratty (University of Mauritius), Isabel Alonso (University of Barcelona), Mar García (Dept. French, UAB) and Valérie Magdelaine-Andrianjafitrimo (Université de La Réunion)
